MATERIAL
I have tried three different kinds of yarn when designing this pattern.
Scheepjes Secret Garden (20% Silk, 20% Cotton, 60% Polyester) with a 4 mm hook.
Scheepjes Cotton 8 (100% Cotton) and Scheepjes Sunkissed (100% Cotton) both with a 3 mm hook.
SIZE
Hexagons made with Scheepjes Cotton 8 and Sunkissed are around 20 cm in diameter.Hexagons made with Scheepjes Secret Garden are around 27 cm in diameter.
ABBREVIATIONS, US CROCHET TERMS
ch – chain
sk – skip
** – repeat instructions between stars the amount of times specified
() – stitches inside parenthesis are made in the same stitch/chain

DESCRIPTION FULL HEXAGON
(description half hexagon below)
Round 1:
Ch 5, *dc, ch 2* repeat from * to * 5 times, in the magic ring.
Join to the 3:rd st of beginning ch-5 with a sl st. (image 1)

Round 2:
Ch 4, dc in the st below (image 1), *2 dc in next ch-2 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next st *
Repeat from * to * 6 times, omitting the last (dc, ch 1, dc) on the last repeat.
Join to the top st of the beginning ch-3 with a sl st (image 2).

Round 3-7:
Sl st into next ch-1 sp. Ch 4, dc in ch-1 sp (image 1).
*dc in each st until next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp*
Repeat from * to * 6 times, omitting the last (dc, ch 1, dc) on the last repeat.
Join to the top st of the beginning ch-3 with a sl st (image 2).


Round 8:
Sl st into next ch-1 sp. Ch 4, dc in ch-1 sp.
*dc in next 6 st’s (image 1), ch 4 (image 2), sk 2 st’s, dc in each st until next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch-1, dc) in ch-1 sp (image 3)*
Repeat from * to * 6 times, omitting the last (dc, ch 1, dc) on the last repeat.
Join to the top st of the beginning ch-3 with a sl st (image 4).

Round 9:
Sl st into next ch-1 sp. Ch 4, dc in ch-1 sp.
*dc in next 5 st’s (image 1), ch 8 (image 2), sk 2 st’s before and 2 after ch-4 sp, dc in each st until next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch-1, dc) in ch-1 sp (image 3)*
Repeat from * to * 6 times, omitting the last (dc, ch 1, dc) on the last repeat.
Join to the top st of the beginning ch-3 with a sl st (image 4).

Round 10:
Sl st into next ch-1 sp. Ch 4, dc in ch-1 sp.
*dc in next 6 st’s, ch 4 (image 1), sc around ch-4 and ch-8 from previous rounds (image 2), ch 4 (image 3), dc in each st until next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch-1, dc) in ch-1 sp (image 4)*
Repeat from * to * 6 times, omitting the last (dc, ch 1, dc) on the last repeat.
Join to the top st of the beginning ch-3 with a sl st.


Round 11:
Sl st into next ch-1 sp. Ch 4, dc in ch-1 sp.
*dc in next 7 st’s (image 1), 2 dc in next ch-4 sp (image 2), ch 2, 2 dc in next ch-4 sp (image 3), dc in each st until next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch-1, dc) in ch-1 sp (image 4)*
Repeat from * to * 6 times, omitting the last (dc, ch 1, dc) on the last repeat.
Join to the top st of the beginning ch-3 with a sl st.


Round 12:
Sl st into next ch-1 sp. Ch 4, dc in ch-1 sp.
*dc in next 10 st’s (image 1), 2 dc in next ch-2 sp (image 2), dc in each st until next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch-1, dc) in ch-1 sp (image 3)*
Repeat from * to * 6 times, omitting the last (dc, ch 1, dc) on the last repeat.
Join to the top st of the beginning ch-3 with a sl st (image 4).

Fasten off and weave in ends and your hexagon is finished! 🙂

DESCRIPTION HALF HEXAGON
When crocheting the half hexagon you need to turn your work around after each round!!!
Round 1:
Ch 5, 4 dc, ch 2, dc, in the magic ring (image 1).

Round 2:
Ch 3, dc in the same st below (image 1), (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-2 sp (image 2), dc in each st until next ch-2 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-2 sp (image 3), 2 dc in 3:rd ch of the beginning ch-5 from previous round (image 4).

Round 3-6:
Ch 3, dc in the same st below (image 1), dc in each st until next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp (image 2), dc in each st until next ch-1 sp (image 3), (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp, 2 dc in 3:rd ch of the beginning ch-3 from previous round (image 4).


Round 7:
Ch 3, dc in the same st below, dc in next 2 st’s,
*ch 4 (image 1), sk 2 st’s, dc in each st until next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp (image 2), dc in next 6 st’s * repeat from * to * 2 times.
ch 4, sk 2 st’s, dc in next 2 st’s, 2 dc in 3:rd ch of the beginning ch-3 from previous round (image 4).

Round 8:
Ch 3, dc in the same st below, dc in next st,
*ch 8 (image 1), sk 2 st’s before and 2 after ch-4 sp, dc in each st until next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp (image 2), dc in next 5 st’s* repeat from * to * 2 times.
ch 8, sk 2 st’s before and 2 after ch-4 sp, dc in next st, 2 dc in 3:rd ch of the beginning ch-3 from previous round (image 3 and 4).

Round 9:
Ch 3, dc in the same st below, dc in next 2 st’s,
*ch 4, sc around ch-4 and ch-8 from previous rounds, ch 4 (image 1), dc in each st until next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp (image 2), dc in next 6 st’s* repeat from * to * 2 times.
ch 4, sc around ch-4 and ch-8 from previous rounds, ch 4, dc in next 2 st’s, 2 dc in 3:rd ch of the beginning ch-3 from previous round (image 3 and 4).

Round 10:
Ch 3, dc in the same st below, dc in next 4 st’s,
*2 dc in next ch-4 sp, ch 2 (image 1), 2 dc in next ch-4 sp , dc in each st until next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp (image 2), dc in next 7 st’s* repeat from * to * 2 times.
2 dc in next ch-4 sp, ch 2, 2 dc in next ch-4 sp, dc in next 4 st’s, 2 dc in 3:rd ch of the beginning ch-3 from previous round (image 4).

Round 11:
Ch 3, dc in the same st below.
*dc in each st until next ch-2 sp, 2 dc in ch-2 sp, dc in each st until next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp* , repeat from * to * 2 times.
Dc in each st until next ch-2 sp, 2 dc in ch-2 sp, dc i next 6 st’s, 2 dc in 3:rd ch of the beginning ch-3 from previous round (image).

Edge:
We are going to add an edge of sc’s on the long side of the half hexagon. This will make an eventual border around the half hexagon look better.
Ch 2 (image 1), make 44 sc’s evenly spread out along the long side (image 1), ch 2, sl st in the top st of beginning ch-3 of round 11 (image 3).

Fasten off and weave in ends and your half hexagon is finished! 🙂
